ISUZU DMAX — XGO Tray, Canopy and Chassis-Mount Body

The ISUZU D-MAX is quickly become the one of the most popular dual cabs in Australia. It’s powerful, refined, comfortable, and packed with technology that makes it a standout whether you’re towing, touring, or using it as a workhorse.

But with all that technology comes complexity. Owners are often hesitant about modifying their ISUZU, particularly when it comes to removing the factory tub and fitting a tray, canopy, or service body. Sensors, cameras, wiring looms, radar systems, blind-spot monitoring and even the way the fuel filler is integrated — all raise questions about what happens when you make changes.

That’s where we come in. At Teralume Industries, we’ve engineered the XGO™ range of trays, canopies, and chassis-mount options specifically for vehicles like the D-MAX. Our mission is simple: help you modify your vehicle without compromise.

The Challenge of Modern Vehicle Modifications

It’s no secret that modifying a modern ute is different to older platforms. In the past, pulling off a tub and throwing on a tray was straightforward. Today, the ISUZU's advanced safety and driver-assist systems add layers of complexity.

Here are some of the most common concerns we hear from D-MAX owners:

  • Sensor relocation: Blind-spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, and radar modules can be affected if not relocated correctly.
  • Fuel filler issues: The D-MAX uses an OEM-specific filler and fuel cap design that doesn’t always adapt neatly into aftermarket trays and can damage the OE fuel tank with venting issues if not understood correctly.
  • Cameras and lighting: Factory 360 cameras, tow-assist, and integrated lighting can be disrupted if not installed and rewired correctly.
  • ADR compliance: Poorly executed modifications can risk roadworthiness and compliance and can also void your insurance!
  • Warranty questions: Many owners fear modifications could impact their factory warranty. However, this is not the case.

We’ve built the XGO™ range to address these issues head-on — so you don’t need to. We've successfully complete many ISUZU D-MAX conversions for our customers.

Tray & Canopy vs Chassis-Mount Body

A tray and canopy setup is a modular system — the tray forms the flatbed platform, and the canopy bolts on top, giving owners flexibility to swap, remove, or upgrade components over time.

A chassis-mount body is different: it’s fixed directly to the chassis as a one-piece unit. That makes it lighter overall, ideal for people who don’t plan on removing their canopy and want to save weight without losing functionality.

There is no wrong and right, only what is more important to you. Both setups will allow the same weight carrying ability and fitout space for all of your accessories and power ups.

Your D-MAX, Your GV

  • How GVM works: GVM is the max your D-MAX can legally weigh when loaded. Everything counts — passengers, fuel, accessories, canopy/tray, tools and gear.
  • Payload impact: With a 3,100 kg GVM and roughly 2,110–2,175 kg kerb weight (variant-dependent), you’re left with about 925–990 kg payload. That figure includes people, fuel, and tow-ball download if you’re towing.
  • Towing link: The weight applied to the tow ball directly reduces your payload (e.g., up to 350 kg ball weight means 350 kg less payload left for gear and accessories).
  • Teralume design: Our trays and chassis-mount bodies are built light so you can carry more passengers, fuel, tools and camping gear without maxing out your GVM. We usually add 280–550 kg and remove nearly 200 kg when your tub is removed.
  • Upgrade options: We also work with certified GVM upgrades to give you extra load capacity if your build demands it.

Wheels, Tyres & Suspension

One of the most important conversations we have with customers is around suspension and their wheel and tyres combination.

Suspensions:
Most factory suspension that vehicles are sold with is adequate for daily running around without weight. When we increase the weight, we strongly suggest that suspension is installed that suits the additional weight to keep the car safe, and well mannered.

We can offer:
Fulcrum Formula and F4R Adjustable suspension kits, along with parabolic and traditional leaf springs.

Tough Dog GVM upgrades along side standard duty lift kits.

Wheels & Tyres:
We offer ROH wheels and tyres to allow for a better suited fitment of wheel size, and offset and match it with stronger, more suitable tyres to increase durability offroad and allowing you to bag out the tyres when the going gets rough!

Internal Fitout

We offer a full range of fit-out options to maximise the usability, comfort and practicality of your vehicle. From premium lighting solutions to Bushman fridge setups, storage and pantry systems, everything is designed to make work and travel easier.

  • Lighting – Choose from LED strip, surface-mount and ambient lighting to create the perfect internal and external setup.
  • Refrigeration – Our go-to pick is the 85L Bushman upright fridges, trusted for reliability and efficiency.
  • Drawers & Tables – Available in three sizes (500W, 780W and 1380W) to suit a wide range of builds and storage needs.
  • Pantry Systems – Select from 280W or 500W pantry modules for convenient camp and travel organisation.
  • Shelving – Overhead shelving units (500W and 800W) mount cleanly to the canopy ceiling to keep gear accessible yet out of the way.

Every option is designed around real-world use, so whether you’re setting up for work, touring or both, your build is ready for whatever comes next.
