Ford PX Ranger — XGO Tray, Canopy and Chassis-Mount Body

The Ford Ranger PX Series (PX, PXII, PXIII) earned its place as a benchmark dual-cab in Australia. It’s capable, comfortable and packed with enough tech to shine whether you’re towing, touring or putting it to work every day.

But with that tech comes complexity. PX owners are often hesitant about removing the factory tub to fit a tray, canopy or chassis-mount body. Sensors, cameras, wiring looms, radar-based driver-assist on later models, blind-spot monitoring and even how the fuel filler is integrated all raise fair questions about what changes — and what shouldn’t.

That’s where we come in. At Teralume Industries, we’ve engineered the XGO™ range of trays, canopies and chassis-mount bodies specifically for platforms like the PX Ranger. Our mission is simple: help you modify your Ranger without compromise — ADR Compliant factory tech that keeps working as intended, and wiring so tidy you barely notice it.

The Challenge of Modern Vehicle Modifications

It’s no secret that modifying a modern ute isn’t like the old days. Pulling the tub and throwing on a tray used to be straightforward. On the Ford Ranger PX Series (PX, PXII, PXIII), later models bring driver-assist and tightly integrated electronics that make careful planning essential.

Here are the most common concerns we hear from PX Ranger owners:

  • Sensor relocation & calibration: Rear parking sensors, BLIS (where fitted) and AEB camera/radar modules must be repositioned and validated post-install or you’ll trigger faults.
  • Cameras & lighting: The factory reverse camera (tailgate/handle), trailer wiring and rear lighting need correct placement and rewiring so features keep working and visibility stays legal.
  • Fuel filler & EVAP venting: The OEM filler and vent system must be adapted properly to trays; poor routing can cause slow fills or EVAP faults.
  • Wiring reliability (CAN-bus): Corrugations punish loose looms — use protected runs, sealed pass-throughs, strain relief and labelled circuits for easy servicing.
  • Tow integration: Mount trailer plugs, brake controllers and Anderson/12-pin connections where they’re protected and easy to use; ensure rear bar/step and plug positions don’t hinder towing or plate visibility.
  • GVM & axle loads: Bars, trays, canopies and gear add up fast — plan weight distribution and consider certified GVM options if your use case demands it.
  • ADR compliance: Number-plate position/illumination, reflector and light placement, rear overhang and load restraint must meet Australian Design Rules to stay road-legal and insured.
  • Warranty questions: Quality, ADR-compliant installs with documentation don’t automatically void manufacturer warranty.

We’ve built the XGO™ range to address these issues head-on — so you don’t have to. We’ve successfully completed many PX Ranger conversions for our customers.

Tray & Canopy vs. Chassis Mount Body

A tray and canopy setup is a modular system — the tray forms the flatbed platform, and the canopy bolts on top, giving owners flexibility to swap, remove, or upgrade components over time.

A chassis-mount body is different: it’s fixed directly to the chassis as a one-piece unit. That makes it lighter overall, ideal for people who don’t plan on removing their canopy and want to save weight without losing functionality.

There is no wrong and right, only what is more important to you. Both setups will allow the same weight carrying ability and fitout space for all of your accessories and power ups.

Your Ranger, Your GVM

  • How GVM works: GVM is the max your Ford Ranger PX (PX–PXIII) can legally weigh when loaded. Everything counts — passengers, fuel, accessories, tray/canopy/body, tools and gear.
  • Payload impact: Typical PX dual-cab 4x4 models list ~3,200 kg GVM with kerb around ~2,150–2,250 kg (e.g., 2019 PXIII XLT: kerb 2,197 kg, GVM 3,200 kg, payload 1,003 kg). That payload must cover people, fuel and any tow-ball download.
  • Towing link: Braked towing is up to 3,500 kg with a typical 350 kg tow-ball limit; ball weight reduces payload one-for-one (300 kg TBM = 300 kg less payload).
  • Teralume design: Our trays and chassis-mount bodies are built light so you can carry more passengers, fuel, tools and camping gear without maxing out GVM. We usually add ~280–550 kg and remove ~200 kg when your tub is removed.
  • Upgrade options: We also work with certified GVM upgrades to give you extra load capacity if your build demands it.

Wheels, Tyres & Suspension

One of the most important conversations we have with customers is around suspension and their wheel and tyres combination.
Most factory suspension that vehicles are sold with is adequate for daily running around without weight. When we increase the weight, we strongly suggest that suspension is installed that suits the additional weight to keep the car safe, and well mannered.

Suspensions:
Fulcrum Formula and F4R Adjustable suspension kits, along with parabolic and traditional leaf springs. Tough Dog GVM upgrades along side standard duty lift kits.

Wheels & Tyres:
We offer ROH wheels and tyres to allow for a better suited fitment of wheel size, and offset and match it with stronger, more suitable tyres to increase durability offroad and allowing you to bag out the tyres when the going gets rough!

Internal Fitout

We offer a full range of fit-out options to maximise the usability, comfort and practicality of your vehicle. From premium lighting solutions to Bushman fridge setups, storage and pantry systems, everything is designed to make work and travel easier.

  • Lighting – Choose from LED strip, surface-mount and ambient lighting to create the perfect internal and external setup.
  • Refrigeration – Our go-to pick is the 85L Bushman upright fridges, trusted for reliability and efficiency.
  • Drawers & Tables – Available in three sizes (500W, 780W and 1380W) to suit a wide range of builds and storage needs.
  • Pantry Systems – Select from 280W or 500W pantry modules for convenient camp and travel organisation.
  • Shelving – Overhead shelving units (500W and 800W) mount cleanly to the canopy ceiling to keep gear accessible yet out of the way.

Every option is designed around real-world use, so whether you’re setting up for work, touring or both, your build is ready for whatever comes next.
