American 2500 Platform — XGO Tray, Canopy and Chassis-Mount Body

The American 2500 class has quickly become the new benchmark for serious towing and payload in Australia—led by RAM 2500 and Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD, with Ford F-250 Super Duty and GMC Sierra 2500 HD also on our roads. They’re powerful, refined, comfortable, and packed with technology that makes them stand out whether you’re towing, touring, or using them as hard-working daily rigs.

But with all that technology comes complexity. Owners are often hesitant about modifying their 2500—especially when removing the factory tub/bed and fitting a tray, canopy, or chassis-mount body. Sensors, cameras, trailer-assist systems, wiring looms, blind-spot monitoring, and even how the fuel filler and AdBlue (DEF) are integrated all raise questions about what happens when you make changes.

That’s where we come in. At Teralume Industries, we’ve engineered the XGO™ range of trays, canopies, and chassis-mount bodies specifically for 2500-class platforms. Our mission is simple: help you modify your USA truck without compromise.

The Challenge of Modern Vehicle Modifications

It’s no secret that modifying a modern heavy-duty pickup isn’t like the old days. Pulling the tub and throwing on a tray used to be straightforward. Today's 2500 platforms (RAM 2500, Silverado 2500 HD, F-250, Sierra 2500 HD) pack advanced safety features and trailer tech that can add real complexity.

Here are the most common concerns we hear from 2500 owners:

  • Sensor relocation: Blind-spot monitoring, rear parking sensors and radar modules must be relocated and validated post-install.
  • Cameras & trailer tech: 360°/surround cameras, trailer reverse aids and factory brake controller logic need proper integration so towing features keep working.
  • Fuel filler & venting: OEM fuel fillers and vent systems don’t always adapt neatly to trays; poor routing can cause slow fills or tank pressure issues.
  • AdBlue (DEF): Keep DEF filler access obvious, and protect/route the DEF tank and lines correctly to avoid nuisance codes or derates.
  • Tow integration: Mount trailer plugs, brake controllers and Anderson/12-pin connections where they’re protected and easy to use; ensure rear steps/bars don’t interfere with towing or visibility.
  • ADR compliance: Number-plate position/illumination, light placement, rear overhang and load restraint must meet Australian Design Rules to stay road-legal and insured.
  • Warranty questions: Quality, ADR-compliant installs with documentation don’t automatically void manufacturer warranty.

We’ve built the XGO™ range to address these issues head-on — so you don’t have to. We’ve successfully completed many 2500-class conversions, including our own.

Tray & Canopy vs. Chassis Mount Body

A tray and canopy setup is a modular system — the tray forms the flatbed platform, and the canopy bolts on top, giving owners flexibility to swap, remove, or upgrade components over time.

A chassis-mount body is different: it’s fixed directly to the chassis as a one-piece unit. That makes it lighter overall, ideal for people who don’t plan on removing their canopy and want to save weight without losing functionality.

There is no wrong and right, only what is more important to you. Both setups will allow the same weight carrying ability and fitout space for all of your accessories and power ups.

Your 2500-TRUCK, Your GVM

  • How GVM works: GVM is the max your Ute can legally weigh when loaded. Everything counts — passengers, fuel, accessories, tray/canopy/body, tools and gear.
  • Payload impact: In Australia, many 2500s are delivered in NB1 with 4,495 kg GVM; with kerb around 3,650–3,800 kg depending on the model and spec level. That leaves roughly 700–900 kg payload which really isnt much considering the capability of the vehicle. You can also ask for the NB2 registration with 5,148 kg GVM and 1,300–1,400 kg payload (light truck licence required).
  • Towing: Tow-ball download reduces payload one-for-one (e.g., 350 kg ball weight = –350 kg payload). Here is Australia, 50 mm balls are typically rated to 3,500 kg (350 kg TBM), while 70 mm hardware can be rated to 4,500 kg where approved—always check your vehicle/towbar ratings.
  • Teralume Design: Our trays and chassis-mount bodies are built light so you can carry more people, fuel, tools and touring gear without maxing out GVM. We usually add 280–550 kg and remove 200 kg or so when your tub is removed.
  • Upgrade Options: We also work with certified GVM upgrades; typical 2500 packages step GVM up to 5,700–5,900 kg (model/NB2-specific).

Wheels, Tyres & Suspension (NEEDS UPDATING)

One of the most important conversations we have with customers is around suspension and their wheel and tyres combination.
Most factory suspension that vehicles are sold with is adequate for daily running around without weight. When we increase the weight, we strongly suggest that suspension is installed that suits the additional weight to keep the car safe, and well mannered.

Suspension:
We offer BDS Suspension packages for 2500-class platforms through our partnership with Outback Kitters — from precision leveling kits to 2–4" lift systems with matched dampers and steering stabilisers. We can also supply heavy-duty spring options (parabolic or traditional leaf, plus helper/air-assist where applicable) and certified GVM upgrade paths. All kits are engineered for ADR-minded fitment on RAM 2500, Silverado 2500 HD, F-250 and Sierra 2500 HD.

Wheels & Tyres:
We offer wheels and tyres to allow for a better suited fitment of wheel size, and offset and match it with stronger, more suitable tyres to increase durability offroad allowing you to bag out the tyres when the going gets rough!

Internal Fitout (NEEDS USA SIZE RENDER)

We offer a full range of fit-out options to maximise the usability, comfort and practicality of your vehicle. From premium lighting solutions to Bushman fridge setups, storage and pantry systems, everything is designed to make work and travel easier.

  • Lighting – Choose from LED strip, surface-mount and ambient lighting to create the perfect internal and external setup.
  • Refrigeration – Our go-to pick is the 130L Bushman upright fridges, trusted for reliability and efficiency.
  • Drawers & Tables – Available in three sizes (500W, 780W and 1380W) to suit a wide range of builds and storage needs.
  • Pantry Systems – Select from 280W or 500W pantry modules for convenient camp and travel organisation.
  • Shelving – Overhead shelving units (500W and 800W) mount cleanly to the canopy ceiling to keep gear accessible yet out of the way.

Every option is designed around real-world use, so whether you’re setting up for work, touring or both, your build is ready for whatever comes next.
